Types of skips

This video from Honley Skip Hire gives a great over-view of the different types of skip size available.

Skips sizes do vary slightly from company to company, but generally you will find skip hire companies will have fairly standard size skip sizes.

One of the most common size skips seen in residential areas in the UK is probably the 8 cubic yard skip.

You can read more about the 8 cubic yard skip, as well as the 10, 6, 4 and 2 cubic yard size skips.

10 Cubic Yard – Maxi

The 10 cubic yard maxi skip is useful for large house clearance jobs, but remember you can’t put heavy waste like soil or rubble in it due to the weight.

8 Cubic Yard – Large Builder

The 8 cubic yard skip is probably the most commonly used skip size in the UK.

Good for house renovation jobs, and the largest skip available for heavy waste like soil, rubble and cement.

6 Cubic Yard – Small Builder

Second most popular multi-purpose skip.

Good for bulky waste, and you can all sorts of heavy materials into it.

4 Cubic Yard – Midi

Used mainly for kitchen and bathroom re-fits, and small household work.

2 Cubic Yard – Mini

Smallest skip generally available, used for very small garden and household jobs. Don’t get this if you think your job will produce large amounts or sizes or waste.
