Guitar Strings for Acoustic Guitars

Nylon

Nylon strings are typically used for classical strings, but they can be used for acoustic guitars too. However, there are some disadvantages that come with nylon strings. Firstly, they tend to struggle to hold their pitch. This is not good if you play the guitar regularly. However, they can be beneficial for those who use the classical guitar. As well as this, you have less chance of developing blisters than you would with other strings.

Steel

The steel acoustic string is much more popular. There are several reasons for this. For a start, they hold their pitch much better than nylon strings. As well as this, they tend to last a lot longer. They are more expensive, but definitely worth it. The sound carries much better than nylon strings, and it is also a much fuller sound that some other types of acoustic strings.

Bronze

Bronze strings are probably the second most popular types of guitar strings for the acoustic guitar. The sound carries very well, but they do not last as long as steel acoustic guitars. If you are a beginner, you may find that bronze strings are easier to manage than steel strings as they tend to be softer and easier to play.

Guitar Strings for Electric Guitars

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is the most popular type of string for the standard electric guitar. They are not only durable and reliable, but also easy to play. Some of them are expensive, but there are cheaper brands available for the beginner. Typically they last for a few months at a time, depending on how often you actually play your guitar. It is always a good idea to have a spare set, especially if you are playing live.

Nickel Plated Steel

Nickel plated steel is a lot more common than steel strings. These types of strings are not only durable, but they can often be much easier to play for the beginner. As with the standard steel string, the sound carries very well as well as working well with the amplifier.

Guitar Strings for Bass

If you have a bass guitar then you will know that there is a significant difference between the strings on a bass and the strings on any other guitar. Firstly, the strings are a lot thicker. The produce a much deeper sound and they are far more durable. There are several different materials that are used in the production of bass guitar strings and some of them are better than others.

As you can see, each guitar type has many different types of strings. At the end of the day, it all depends on how long you have been playing, how often you play, and also what sound you are trying to create.
