Guide to the different types of iPods available in the UK.

Apple’s iPod is possibly the most popular portable music player ever. The majority of people up and down the country now own one of them. However, there are several different types of iPods to choose from if you are interested in buying one for yourself or as a gift.

There have been many different models over the years, and each model has generations where new versions have been released. If you want to buy one then it is important that you know about all of the different types.

Types of iPods

iPod Classic

iPod Nano

iPod Mini

iPod Shuffle

iPod Touch

Useful websites

iPod Classic

The iPod Classic was the original iPod, the first to be released. This type of iPod is actually still very popular today, despite the many other options available. Of course, the latest generations of the iPod Classic are indeed the most popular. This type of iPod has a huge memory capacity, with the most popular being the 80GB version. It has very high quality video and sound playback, as well as being lightweight and compact. If you want something that is reliable and high quality then this is definitely it.

iPod Nano

The iPod Classic swiftly took a back seat when the Nano was released. This is not so much the case now, but it certainly was back then. Never generations of the Nano have many more features than previous versions. For example, they are much better shaped, and there are many more colours available to choose from. As well as this, the newer generations actually have video cameras built-in, which is great. The only issue with the newer generations is that they tend to be a bit flimsy and very easy to break. The good thing about the newest model is that Apple have made it much more compact and have also integrated Multi-Touch.

iPod Mini

The iPod Mini is basically a small compact hybrid of the Nano and the Classic. This type of iPod would be perfect for anyone who wants something compact and lightweight that is still durable. There are several different colours available if you want to get an iPod Mini, and again, the newer models tend to have many more features on offer than the older models.

iPod Shuffle

The iPod shuffle is the smallest and least expensive out of all of the different types of iPods. This type of iPod would be perfect for anyone who is constantly on the go because you can simply clip the player to your jacket or belt and move without having to worry about dropping the iPod. The only downside to this type of iPod is the fact that you have no screen, which also means no video play back or album artwork. As well as this, it can be difficult to change songs because you cant actually see what is playing.

iPod Touch

The iPod Touch is probably the best iPod that Apple have come up with yet. First of all, there is the fact that it has a full touch screen that makes browsing the music collection incredibly easy. As well as this, there is the built in Wi-Fi that isn’t available on any other iPods. This allows you to browse the web anywhere where there is a Wi-Fi connection. Of course, this is a huge plus point. There are many more, such as the built in YouTube player and the fact that there are numerous apps that can be downloaded to enhance your iPod experience.

Useful websites

If you want to find out more about the different different types of iPod, or want to buy an iPod, the following links may be useful:

Cupertino-based tech giant Apple started its journey with the Apple I back in 1976, and it hasn’t looked back ever since, expanding into a multitude of categories including tablet devices and smartphones. However, its evergreen Macintosh desktop computer still remains a hot favorite. Today’s Apple desktop computers can be classified into three chief categories.

Mac mini

Mac Pro

iMac

The iMac is Apple’s most impressive desktop line, and comes with the ultimate combination of power and aesthetics. The 21.5-inch models and one 27-inch model are equipped with 3.06GHz dual-core Intel Core i3 processors, while the other 27-inch models boast a quad-core Intel Core i5 at 2.8GHz or even a stunning alternative of an Intel Core i7 at 2.93GHz.

The latest iMac features 4GB of DDR3 memory with expansion slots of up to 16GB for users who need the extra memory. Featuring a wireless mouse as well as a multi-touch trackpad, the iMac allows users to interact with the computers in a variety of ways, whichever they are comfortable with.

The iMac also features a wireless keyboard, an iSight camera for video chat and photo captures, and uniform LED backlighting that promises a colorful and attractive display from every angle. For gamers, the iMac line comes equipped with ATI Radeon graphic processors, which range anywhere between a 256MB ATI Radeon HD 4670 (for the 21-inch model) to a 1GB ATI Radeon HD 5750 (for the 27-inch model).

Mac mini

Weighing just 10 pounds and measuring 7.7 inches by 1.4 inches, the Mac mini is a small desktop computer powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and featuring a NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor. The device also comes equipped with 8GB RAM and although it doesn’t have a display, it can be plugged into other displays or even HDTV’s to provide a superb visual experience.

The Mac mini features several ports, including HDMI, FireWire 800, USB 2.0, Mini DisplayPort output and an HDMI-to-DVI adapter. In addition, the SD card slot allows for easy transfer of files from digital cameras. A built-in 802.11n wireless technology guarantees easy connections to Wi-Fi networks.

Mac Pro

The Mac Pro is a workstation computer and is built for sheer power, featuring processing options of 4, 6, 8 or even a jaw-dropping 12 cores. An integrated memory controller, combined with a speedy DDR3 ECC SDRAM at options of either 1066MHz or 1333MHz guarantees higher bandwidth and higher processing speeds.

The Mac Pro boasts four 3.5-inch drive bays which enable mind-blowing internal storage — up to 8TB. In addition, users have the option of adding four 512GB solid-state drives for even more impressive performance.

Measuring 20.1 inches tall, 8.1 inches wide and 18.7 inches deep, the Mac Pro features FireWire 800 and USB ports and a front-panel headphone minijack and internal speaker. Users can connect the Mac Pro to Apple LED displays and choose additional upgrades and accessories such as wireless keyboards and magic trackpads, configuring the workstation as they wish.

Videos

A nice video that shows some of the differences between the original 1st generation iPad and the later 2nd generation iPad. This video could be useful for anyone who wants to compare the two different iPads. The video presenter makes a good point that some people may want to find out whether it is worth saving a bit of money and buy the original iPad.

Another nice side by side comparison of the iPad vs iPad 2. This video gives you a really nice quick lay-mans overview of why the second iPad is a fair bit better.

Both video reviewers seem to really be convinced that the iPad 2 is a better investment than the original 1st generation.
